I'm going tomorrow, as are many other people.
Turns out I've seen the guy from Bio tutoring a very long time ago, training at a certain nearby park. On biology: 20 amino acids is a little annoying to remember even though we probably don't need it. There was something on Mendelian inheritance, and a Punnett square essentially shows the possibility of a certain trait being passed on to offspring. Finally, there is no Chemistry or Biology tutoring next week because of year 12 camp! Which leaves only physics. Which makes me go "wtf rotational mechanics please go slow on the ppt slides I've barely read them".
Yeah. I'm screwed for August. (UNSW English, Australian Mathematics Comp, City2Surf, 3 NQEs, Work Experience, and two tests just outside of August). Wait, what 5 tests OH SH-
'Twas playing StepMania (open source DDR-clone I think) and failed miserably, because I swear there were people behind me watching. I managed to convince onlookers that I'm a PRO, but otherwise weird clammy hands don't make you perform better (unless, y'know, it's some kind of sport such as tennis, John Isner)
In Careers, the Franklin loaned us the y11 subject selection book, which was remarkably full of information (as well as a lack of), and apparently there are 4-5 1 unit courses: Mind & Morality, Visual Design, Exploring Early Childhood (Board of Studies says its 1-2), and Society & Culture. I would do Mind & Morality, but doing 3 unit maths implies 13 units and I don't really want to do 14 units (I'm not even sure if that's possible). Finally, the price tag: $755! This is only for 6 credit points at USyd, and it doesn't count towards the ATAR -_-
After skimming through the booklet, I have the urge to pick up many subjects, which includes but is not limited to: Economics/Legal, Ext 2 Maths, compulsory English Advanced, SDD, PDHPE, Physics, Chemistry, Mind & Morality, Japanese Beginners, and altogether that's 19+2 units. Not good at all for choosing. All I know is that we need >=12 units (for next year), at least 4 subjects, 3 of which are worth >=2 units, and 2 units compulsory English. Since when was English compulsory eh?
The main problem is that I don't really know what career to go into. I have many interests in different areas of knowledge, but for a profession I've got nothing so far. Psychology is an interesting subject, but it's kind of weird to do as a job: I've had a general interest in Science since I was 6yo as well as I can remember, but the only occupations which I can think of which goes with that is medicine, and I hear it's very hard and needs good scores in a certain aptitude test. It's about time that I start thinking.
A little earlier this week, sport selections: Ba**** Squash chosen, because the year elevens had already chosen to fill up Bowling, and there was alarmingly high pressure to conform and do Squash. At least I won't be spending the entire time bludging/studying anymore: I checked the lists and there seems to be only 5 people in our grade doing walking, bad luck: Taekwondo is full of year 9s or 8s, I'm thinking "whut, I could (probably) smash them". Delivering rec sport selection announcements is very unnerving, especially when you do it during someone's assessment (sorry Matt, Zac)
Oh crap, is that the time, I have to wake up early tomorrow to help with the anniversary.
Goodnight! (word count is: 591 not bad, eh?)
1) You won't be screwed for August, you're smart.
ReplyDelete2) You tempt me with the Visual Design course.
3) Yay walking.
4) If you don't pass the UMAT, you could go somewhere else to study. Although I don't like thinking about that happening.
Science isn't all to do with medicine. Right? Right? I dunno, but I'm so sure there's way more branches of science.
ReplyDeleteSmartness does not allow one to run 5:00 kilometres on a hilly course
ReplyDeleteBut thanks anyways :)
