[Edit: Unintentionally long post, quality varies with mental acuity]
There were A LOT more competitors this time around, such that Filewoodo decided to have three separate races instead of the previous year's two. Last year, it was separated into 15s and over who went first, followed by under 15s, who went next under torrential rain (haha!). This time round, there is no rain and the ground is barely wet. The order is as follows: under 15s boys and girls, open girls and 17+ boys, finally open boys. There were also A LOT of people watching this time, because Filewoodo was slow, etc. there are about 50 people who saw me fail... and saw Jaewoo trip under suspicious circumstances (sorry!). However, I placed approx 4th last (number 12 in race), and my time was (self-timed):
6:24. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Such a disappointing time, I must say. I was expecting something along the lines of 5:40 at the very least... Anyhow, at 6.24, it means speed equals 14.0625km/h. Compare this with my Ash's time of about 5:30 (?), then compare that to my dad's personal best: 4:50. Damn straight. That's 18.6km/h. Even Ash thinks that's crazy. -_-"
It felt much better than running the sprints though. I declare that I am not built for short distance! First event of the day is hurdles. I can't remember my time, I was beaten a little (at least by Sam?), but afterwards I noticed my right knee was in severe pain! I couldn't even run, and walking was done mostly with my left leg. I'll leave hurdles to those with crazy technique and speed (i.e. George Zhang)
Discus is next. Not much to say here, except the 'disc' was 1.5kg for 16s boys, and I couldn't qualify (oh noes, not again). Finally, it's HIGH JUMP! This year, I contemplated going serious, but my knee pretty much required general anesthetic or morphine, and the qualifying bar height was (what the... is that above my sternum!?) so nope, not gonna even try the Flop. Surprisingly, the competition ended with Vinay and George failing on the same height (skinny guy with no visible muscle vs. a tank with a scissor kick). I hear the height was about 155cm when they were finished. Which reminds me, high jump happens to be a very good spectator sport at this school, because people are recording, cheering, and actually not talking so much o.O
100m finals were a bit boring, no one paying attention or cheering as such. Until the teacher vs student relay. Looks like Filewoodo and Smithy are fast runners! They were probably gonna win, until it was 'Rocket Rod's turn... he was so slow that it's not even funny. Final results are as always, Hughes first and Suttor second, don't know about those other houses :P. And congrats to Germaine, age champion for everything since year 7!
The rest of the day is boring. Except it involved spicy noodles, alcohol on my leg, and getting kicked out of a gym (just when they told me I could use it).
Okay, I'm gonna train so hard that I get age champion for cross county AND athletics (this could take a while)
Does anyone know where I can sign-up for Little Athletics in the general area where I live? Also, does anyone know a cheap reasonable gym with adductor and abductor machines, as well as a speed bag/machine?
I went to little athletics in winston hills on a saturday morning when I was eleven, it was at Gooden Reserve .
